Just my place where I can put what I want, and read what people think about what I said.
I have norton, but from what I hear norton sucks. Does any body know a better anti-virus software?

Just a quick notion - After AVG failed utterly to protect my sisters computer fom this latest worm, I went ahead and checked out the free versions (via http://www.av-test.org/ studies) of AVG, avast, and antivir, both of the latter are reviewing better than AVG for malware and a number of other issues than free avg  -avast was actually the strongest of the three, but antivir did only slightly worse and with about a third the process footprint (700 Mhz PC = important);

Just a thought - Jonnan

fom this latest worm

Wait, are you talking about the one that MS patched out back in October?

on Feb 10, 2009

Well, my company uses NAV Corp 10...

What works for you, what you like.

I use AVG Free myself. A few false positives, all cleared up in a day or two. No other problems.

Supposedly yeah. I know for a fact (having built the PC in question, albeit ages ago.) that XP was updating automatically. It got in anyway - {grrr}. Also past several other defensive items (inc AVG).

Which is why the main OS is Ubuntu now, the XP is simply a backup for those few programs that she needs for that.

And microwave ovens heat things from the inside out, and cows fly...

Microwave ovens heat food by bombarding it with microwaves which transfer energy to water molecules, if your food has dried out somewhat (an occurance more likely with leftovers than flashfrozen burritos) then it would dry from the outside in, leaving the highest concentration of water in the center.  So yes, microwave ovens can heat things from the inside out... how did that come into question anyway, has that not been most people's experience when microwaving leftovers, the center burns then shit out of your mouth and the outside is still only warm to the touch, that's the reason stand time is suggested for microwaved meals, allow time for the heat to distribute evenly.

Just because the food is warmer on the inside doesn't mean it heats the food from the inside and out though, it just means that there's more to work with inside the food. Put anything frozen into a microwave for a while, and you'll notice that it's still frozen on the inside, while the outside is not. That's all there is to it.. Microwaves doesn't penetrate food magically to heat the inside first. Also, anything solid that's heated will be warmer on the inside after being thoroughly heated, because the heat from the surface dissipate into the surrounding air faster than it does from the solid core.

Anyway, if you don't believe me, disregard that bit of my post and only compare the DRM optical-drive breakdown with flying cows. There's just about the same amount of truth in both statements.

I've only ever met one person who claimed to actually get his own drive broken by DRM, when I asked him how he knew it was caused by StarForce the reply was: "I had StarForce installed by a game, and I read on the internet that it breaks drives".... Not exactly solid proof.

I am working with security solutions for companys.

and i would say that any antivirus solution could work, it depends on alot of diffrenthings.

mostly you get what you pay for.

I can recommend Symantecs Norton family for any homeuser, you will get a good protection,

The problem people find with Norton is that they feel that it takes a lot of RAM from the computer.

But they have alot of light version like, norton gaming edition, Norton Internet security.

Sorry, I meant refrigerated vs frozen in general.  And no they don't magically penetrate food, it's just that they don't interact with most molecules, they simply pass through them, and when they contact water they cause the molecules to vibrate faster, when the encounter metal they are reflected or they deflect electons, causing the arcing you may note with most metals.

Really? I've used Mac OS X too, and it failed completely to protect my computer from getting viruses...

I even tried installing it on my computer, and it didn't even install. So I can safely say that OS X is the crappiest antivirus to never come out from Apple. (Note! The use of the word never in the previous sentence is 100% intentional.... Don't e-mail me about it.)
